▬ Château Pontet-Canet 

Siégeant sur une magnifique croupe de graves, le Château Pontet-Canet est parvenu au sommet de l’appellation grâce au travail de ces 15 dernières années. Il a été le premier des Crus Classés du Médoc à obtenir, en 2010, sa certification en bio et biodynamie. Les ajustements dans les élevages, pour minimiser le contact avec le bois (50% de fûts neufs, 15% de fûts d’un vin, 35% d’amphores en béton) - ont encore accru l’éclat du fruit dans les vins, tout comme la réception de la vendange et l’égrappage manuels, mis en place depuis 2017. Grand pauillac de style classique, le vin d’Alfred Tesseron est taillé pour durer, avec pourtant cette texture velours qui engendre immédiatement l’émotion.

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose opens with exuberant black currants, red currants and black raspberries scents plus an evocative undercurrent of cedar chest, dusty earth, cloves, chocolate box and Provence herbs with a fragrant waft of lavender. Medium to full-bodied and built like a brick house with very firm, wonderfully grainy tannins and black and red fruits charged with the most singular energy, it finishes with incredible persistence and depth." Wine Advocate-Parker

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Pontet-Canet hits the ground running with a hedonic nose of Black Forest cake, crème de cassis and blueberry pie plus suggestions of candied violets, hoisin, chocolate mint, charcuteries and forest floor with a waft of star anise. Full-bodied, rich, profoundly layered and powerfully fruited, the palate is built like a brick house, with very firm, super ripe, grainy tannins and harmonious freshness, finishing with incredible length and depth. Still incredibly primary and yet already strutting so many layers, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this warrants the three-digit score in a few years' time." Wine Advocate-Parker

"This is a very charming Pauillac with texture, rippling energy and undoubted finesse. It's deceptive, because the dark, luscious blackberry, bilberry, and damson notes are fairly fresh, with a luscious lipsmacking quality, but the tannins build over the palate. It almost tastes like a St-Julien rather than a Pauillac as they're so fine and elegant, but the Pauillac character becomes more apparent by the close of play - there's no hiding those swirling cassis, smoke and menthol notes. This has a really gorgeous tension and freshness without sacrificing concentration. They used brand-new concrete vats this year, designed by technical director Jean-Michel Comme's, for one-third of the crop. The concrete was made from sands and gravels extracted from the exact spot that the building containing them now stands, utilising geothermal heating and cooling, with as few metallic parts as possible and insulated with hemp." Decanter

"The 2018 Pontet-Canet is a freak of nature. Dark, rich and explosive, the 2018 possesses off the charts richness and concentration, much of it coming from tiny yields of just ten hectoliters per hectare, or one third of a normal crop. The 2018 soars out of the glass with stunning aromatic intensity and depth. Black cherry, gravel, grilled herbs, leather, lavender and menthol stain the palate. Dense and hedonistically ripe, the 2018 is a stunningly beautiful wine. The grapes were crushed by hand. Because of the tiny yields, the entire production was vinified in Pontet-Canet's new smaller concrete vats. All winemaking was done manually, without the aid of external temperature control or electricity. Quite simply, I have never tasted anything like it." Vinous

"A very tight, compact red that shows wonderful precision and definition with lots of blackberries, bluberries, stones and black tea. The sorting and destemming was all done by hand. love the sensibility to this.Superb length and finesse. Subtle and sophisticated. No pumping over and gentle pushing down. Handmade.
